A sanctuary where the land does the slowing down for you
Burringbar · Byron Bay Hinterland, Northern Rivers NSW
Disconnect from the noise, reconnect with what you need — ten acres of forest, creek and garden in the hills behind Byron Bay. A place to stay, to host your own retreat, or simply to slow down.
Since 2019
Established for conscious travellers, built for quiet
Sanctuary Burringbar sits along Cudgera Creek in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales — an eco-retreat shaped around self-guided exploration, native regeneration, and unhurried days. Wander the syntropic gardens, sit by the all-natural pond, or simply let the birdsong set the pace.
Whatever brings you here — a private stay, a retreat you're leading, or a wellness reset — the land holds the same intention: fewer distractions, more presence.

The Northern Rivers Rail Trail
The Tweed section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail runs 24km from Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek — and Burringbar is one of the villages right on it, minutes from our gate. Sealed and gravel paths, 18 historic railway bridges and multiple tourism awards make it one of the best reasons to bring a bike.

Cudgera Creek
Bird Watching
Start the day with a morning walk down Cudgera Creek Road, past native wildlife, plants and birdlife that fill this stretch of the valley.
Sanctuary Burringbar's regenerating bushland is home to kookaburras and a wide range of native birds — bring binoculars, or just your patience.
